View Full Version : Bob the Bass and the Flying Fish

Thanks to the recommendation from the great guys at LRO I took my fly rod to the little stream that runs through the park in Maryville. It is a great place that is close to my house for me to practice and just have fun when I only have an hour and a half and want to fish for at least an hour. Plus there was the flying fish and Bob the Bass.
I was working fishing a green weenie in a deeper area and then while I was starting my back cast I see the flying fish come after me. Yes I hooked a little brim was just a little bigger than the minnows you can get at your local bait shop. I would love to know what was thinking when he goes from lunch time to launch time. The good news is when I took him off the hook and put him back in the water he swam off ready to fly another day.
Then I saw a guy on the other side of the stream fishing with his spinning reel. We started talking and he told me about the big bass he saw in the stream and has been attempting to catch for a while. We walked up to the bridge and he showed me where the fish hangs out most of the time and there he was. For such a little stream it was a nice size bass. The way he talked about stalking the fish reminded me of how in Grumpy Old Men they were after the fish they called “Catfish Hunter” .
So I have now taken up the challenge as well to land Bob The Bass. So far it is Bob the Bass 1 – Scott 0

Sorry to say I launched my first Brookie into low orbit with a poorly timed backcast......could have sworn I heard him screaming :eek:as he made the jump to hyperspace just past my head.

Felt like crap the rest of the day! Imagine he didn't feel so hot either.
