Been fly fishing for about three years now. Econmy is tough but can't get the bamboo thing off my mind. If I could, oysterbay would be on my credit card but not going to happen I guess. Any one got any options to expand my flyrod collection with bamboo other than the imports under $800.00.
Thanks in advance.

If you would like to build your own, The Anglers Roost has kits for about $140.

research. research. research. Thats all I can say.KNow the tapers you like, paynes or others. Find a builder who build on various styles and cast several. cast the rods feel the actions and decide which one fits your style......then look at the price tags. Walter Babb makes a nice rod and so does GMREEVES. I have cast old orvis cane rods and loved the stroke but hated the weight and I have cast lighter rods that felt like broom handles. So there is a lot to consider. Dont buy off of a certain authers opinion go off what you like .

There are several forum members on here that make bamboo rods. I would search this forum with the SEARCH feature and other areas to get more information. Buying a rod locally helps your community and you can meet with the builder to discuss the fine points of a bamboo rod.
