Gatlinburg 10/27

I had to attend a conference this week in Gatlinburg. On Monday, I had meetings to attend to all day so I didn't get to go out and go fishing but on Tuesday, the meeting had a free afternoon and that day Jason was presenting that evening so we headed over to check out Ramsey prong. Before very long, he caught the first (and only fish brought to hand)

We had a fww more hook ups and several more misses, but teh fishing was mostly slow.

On Wednesday, I decided to go over to Roaring fork during the lunch break. The fishing was much better, with lots of 6" rainbows hitting the dry and at least one hook up or a fish caught from each run or plunge pool.

All in all in the two hour break I had, I brought between 15-20 to hand, it was enough to mak eme strongly consider not going back to the conference for the afternoon :biggrin:

Today, the conference only lasted until noon, so I took one last quick trip to Le Conte creek before I left. The brookies were biting, but the takes were so subtle not many were brought to hand.

Nice report. Roaring Fork is a great little stream if you only have a couple hours to get out, and it has some surprisingly deep pools in the gorge just before leaving the park. Thanks for the post and pics.

I had never made it over there, since I usually fish the Townsend area when I only have a short time to get into the park. I really would like to do it again, and maybe next time get further away from the road ... as much as I enjoy Floridians taking my picture while I am releasing a trout from up on the road, that's usually not the experience I am after. (I did catch the 8 incher which I initially had no intention of keeping, but as it was gill-hooked, I decided to, and I contemplated taking it back to my car which was at the bridge over the stream the first time it crosses to clean it for all the cars to watch...But I decided against stirring up the inevidable C&R conversation that would ensue) I bet once the stream gets away from the road it is an excellent place to be - really cool lay out and flow and grade, etc.

Great report and pictures! Did you try nymphs over on Ramsey or just dries?

Not many fish (btw, I did get a second one, didnt bother with a pic;)), but just being out on an resplendent day was well worth it. Nothing like changing out of your formal dress clothes in the truck, to put on your "fishing clothes" and spend almost 4 hours crawling rocks and wading rivers, only to come back and button up a dress shirt with the leaves falling all around to put things in perspective. I don't know what perspective, but Im sure there is something meaningful there.

Great report and pictures! Did you try nymphs over on Ramsey or just dries?

Well I was fishing a dry/dropper combo most of the day. Switched to a couple of different droppers but never had many hits on them. Maybe they weren't deep enough.

Nice pictures and fall looks gorgeous over there. I am heading to conference in Western MD in Novemeber. Hope I can catch a break and do as well as you did there.
