Here is a link to a digitally reproduced copy of Fishing in the Great Smokey Mountains National Park and Adjacent Waters, published 1938 by its author, Joe F. Manley. This is a pretty darn tough find old hardback. Eddie George gave me his copy sometime in 1980s. I tracked Manley down, giving him one of my guide books to the Smokies, and he signing my copy of his book. He was an interesting fellow I visit with several times before his death. That I had the presence of mind to keep my notes is miraculous.
Manley’s book is neat in the fact it talks as much about bass fishing in the park as it does trout fishing, which makes since insofar as much of the park was not heavily forested when he was a ranger there. His fly selection, though brief, is consistent with a theory I am developing on old patterns in the Smokies for the book I am currently working on.

The same digital library has a copy of Fishing in the Carolinas, by P.A. Murray published in 1941 by The University of North Carolina Press. While it is not exactly a cornucopia of knowledge, it is an interesting period piece.

It’s a bit of chore to fish this time of year. These reads do provide reasonable respite from four out of five wives.
