Brown Was the Color of the Day

I decided to finally fish a "new to me" stream today. I have been planning and thinking about it for a long time. This particular stream is home to some big browns. Unfortunately, none of the really big ones made it onto my fly.

I hooked and lost a few shortly after I started, but I fished for an hour before I landed my first fish.

This guy nailed my dropper, I set the hook and he came off. I casted in again and he inhaled the dry, I got him that time.

Fishing on with a lot of strikes, hook ups, catching shiners and chubs, finally I picked up this small brown.

As I made it further upstream, the water was turning a little more "rainbowish". I picked up two before deciding to call it a day. The big one refused to have his picture taken, but he really was a pretty nice fish.

All and all, a decent day. I fished a dry/dropper all day, most catches and strikes were on the dry. I doubt I will fish this stream again, but at least I can scratch it off my list.

Yes, they seemed to like it.

I use alot of different wulff like patterns in various colors. The calf tail wings are easier for me to pick up on the water. The 14 adams wulff was working for me up around grandfather.

That's all I use, white body and gray body. I can see them well. The only time I use anything else is if I'm fishing a BH green weenie dropper, I use a hi vis foam body caddis, as the weight of the BH weenie tends to sink the wolf.

I use the grays, reds, oranges, yellows and neon greens, depending on the time of year. I find that these patterns work day in and day out. I like to keep it simple. I carry some other flies that I have tied myself, and sometimes they actually work!! Then again, most of the time they don't!!!
