View Full Version : Cooking up an idea...

So, with all these recent posts and pics involving trout that are now swimming in that big blue river in the sky... this gave me a tasty idea.

First off...
I am going to add a disclaimer here so as to not offend anyone who is against keeping a trout for human consumption. If the thought of this makes you squeamish or gets your blood pressure up, please take this opportunity to browse another thread and DO NOT continue reading...

Now with that out of the way... any interest in organizing a friendly get together to cook up some trout where you can show off your favorite recipe/style/technique/etc...?? I thought it might be a neat experience to be able to sample different recipes from other forum members. I know I sure would like to...

Some examples I thought of...
Stay at a group site at Elkmont where everyone could fish and then 'get to cookin' Or even a BC site for the truly adventurous... Or does not even have to involve camping/fishing at all and can just be BYOF and meet up at some picnic pavilion.

I would absolutely love to do something like this...but, I have a full plate right now. Closing on a house on Tuesday, baby due June 5th, etc., etc., etc.

Depending on when it is I might be able to sneak out for an afternoon.

Will there be liver ruining activities?

Sounds like a plan to me. I will volunteer to bring a few of my dutchovens to make cornbread and desserts if that sounds good to anyone.

Mike

I wouldn't be able to take part until after June 8th as I will be out of town from this Sunday tll then.

Tight Lines,

One other thing I'll throw out there.....
Assuming this would be an overnighter held at a frontcountry campground, I'd be in favor of visiting one of the national forest campgrounds to avoid any contact with national park campground authority & their laundry list of rules & regs.

I would love to have your dutchovens in on the deal if possible...

Is this something people would want to wait till June to try?
I was thinking maybe before things got too hot and there was still some good fishing, if we decided to go that way...

I know I checked Elkmont and they are pretty booked the month of June. One thing I was thinking of was the Memorial Day weekend. I have off on Monday so there is another possibility for that Sunday if others are free as well. It was mentioned to maybe avoid places like Elkmont but other than keeping your food and coolers in the car, I have never had any issues but maybe others have? Also, I am not too familiar with the other local National Forests and where to go and what the water would be like so some of you other members need to chime in here regarding suggestions...
