Took the whole week off, weather was great until Sunday. Fishing was very good some days, and just awful a couple other days. My son and Caleb camped with me a couple days each. Caleb can see fish better than anyone I know, and we worked hard the first couple days with very poor results. High blue bird skies, north east wind, low water, and no cloud cover had em lock jawed. Then about Thursday the clouds moved in, the barometer eased off and things got much better. Double P came over on Saturday and we probably had the best day of the week. The falling barometer and cloudy conditions produced some good fish and double digit catches for all of us. Most fish were caught on terrestrials and midge droppers. My friend Ben from the Dirty D Social Club showed me a real winner Thursday and it proceeded to wack em silly for 3 days.

Very nice Flyman.
But that was an awful tame report by your standards.....

That photo of the brown, shot at night, with the fly and the tippet, is an awesome photo. The detail is outstanding, hold on to that photo, a FF magazine surely would pay for that photo.

Granny I had my young friend Caleb, who is a person of strong faith and my son along. They have a tendency to bring out the better side of me. Which is still a long way from tame:biggrin:

Thanks Bill, I'm always looking for a photo of fish that's a little different than the standard grip and grin.s

I'm going to go out on a limb and suggest he's talking about the Davidson River.

I'd think that's a pretty strong limb...

Flyman,

I am glad to see you received my check so you could do a little fishing. See, you don't have to be loaded like me to travel and fish. You just have to have friends with a little money who are willing to donate for a worthy cause.

Seriously, how did you make those small fish look so big? Wow, what a great group of fish you guys caught. I am glad you had a good time.

I have not been on here much lately. Are you behaving?

With your permission, I would like to print a copy of that brown at night, mount it, and hang it in my office/tying room. You, of course, will retain all rights to the photo.

Thanks

Bill

Bill, it's actually a rainbow if I remember right. Look at the gill plate. I don't mind if you want to use it. Email me at syates6006@gmail.com if you want a full size copy of the jpeg file.

Don, glad to see you made it back home. The $3.37 you send me was a nice gesture:rolleyes:. My behavior is always the best I can muster given the present situation. I was going to give a class on trick photography at Troutfest this year, but it looks like I might have to write the book now:biggrin:

Flyh2O, yes it's the Davidson River. She ain't what she use to be but it's still a pretty good fishery, with a nice family type campground. Plus I don't have to beg my parole officer to let me leave the state.

Flyman, Could you give info on the campground? Been wanting to fish the Davidson but never have.

Ben, the water was too low, not to mention full of leaves:biggrin:

Principal, Here is a good link for finding just about any campground in the NF or NP around the country.

http://www.recreation.gov/camping/Davidson_River/r/campgroundDetails.do?contractCode=NRSO&parkId=70204&topTabIndex=Search

Breck, I love all kinds of fishing. My days of hiking 4 or 5 miles to fish are just about over. This area has easy access and as a result sometimes gets a little crowed on the weekends. It is easy wading, so it's a good place for kids and old farts like me. Go early or late, or during the week day if you can.
