View Full Version : 2 Huge Brown Trout on the Clinch with Rocky Top Anglers

Started the day not knowing if today would be anything but another day of rain but had to get out there and fish. Met with a great friend on his day off from guiding. Some of you might know him as Michael Cox a.k.a. Rocky of Rocky Top Anglers.

The day started with me on oar duty as Rocky started pounding the banks with streamers. Plenty of Rainbow flashes but no takes. The water was 51 degrees.

Fish on!! And in hand!! 24"....7 lbs. of pure beauty!!

He was drunk with happiness and it was my turn to attempt the same kind of enjoyment that I had just been witness to. Rocky with the oars I'm back to pounding the banks truly wondering what that fish must have felt like being brought in on the reel.

My fish on and it was the largest trout and Brown that I have ever caught on a fly rod and streamer!!

26 in. and 8 lbs!!!

This is what can happen when two friends get together for a day of fishing.

The rain started to move in around lunch so we called it a day. 2 hrs., 2 magnificent brown trout.

You have a great friend in Mr Rocky. And a better guide. Congratulations to both of you. The Clinch has turned out some very nice big fly caught browns in the last 18 month. When you consider how many fish go home on a metal stringer, slot or legal, it is impressive that the big fish have survived and flourished.

Awesome fish right there! Congrats

you are so spot on!! Have met his parents and great people as well. I fish the Hiwasse as my home water and after four years of fishing it, he opened a whole new way to fishing this river with me.

Absolute awesome pilot in a Drift Boat while fishing the entire river to the take out.

I recommend everyone try working with a guide. Even on your home waters which you might think you know.....I assure you another chapter can be opened.

Thank You,

Hey Breck, Those are a couple of incredible fish. I bet the battle with them was terrific to say the least. A friend of mine and I were on the Clinch this afternoon and fished below the wier and floated down to the 75 bridge and did pretty well, but nothing to compete with those 2 brutes.

Thanks for the kind words guys.

Thanks for giving me some rod time today Breck! I've got to admit, I had a fine guide today myself. Put me on a pig within 15 minutes.

Thanks for showing me a lunker brown. You sold a vacuum on your first day, working it man!

Glad you got to get out on some big water for some big fish! That is a great achievement to get two 20+ in the same day. Now; you have to start reaching for the 30+ fish.

Glad you had a great time and you see why I rarely venture away from the Clinch.

I looked for you yesterday and you were talked about often. Both caught within 30 minutes of each other.

Had similar trip two weeks ago with Rocky on the Hiwassee.

Shawn,to the first guy who gave me my first set of flys three years ago - I Thank You for my fly fishing journey.. See you soon Shawn!!!

Wow! Those are some real pigs!

I wouldn't have thought that 9000 cfs is the right conditions for fishing, but you proved that wrong. Guess you not in the group of fisherman complaining about all the water now:biggrin:

All I can say is Holy ____, great day on the water! Caught one of those 3 years ago while on the Clinch just below the shoals from Peach Orchard, but two in one day......WOW!

Breck, you are most deserving of such a successful day given you yourself have helped so many along since your recent relocation to the region. I might start calling you the Post-bass Ambassador of Fly Fishing.

Thank you for everyones comments. If you haven't met (tnrockyraccoon) you owe to yourself, to do so.

I have said before, the people I have met that are committed to this sport have been the most compelling and interesting!!

This is my 2nd trip with this professional, the first on the Hiwassee and that trip 2 weeks ago was epic.

It can be said: you are who you associate with. I'm going fishing!!

Thank You,
