I decided that I would tie something new to me this evening and this is what I came up with.
Blue Wing Olive Nymph
Hook: Nymph 2X Long # 16
Black Bead Sized to Hook
Weight: 6-8 Wraps of .015 Lead Wire
Thread: UNI 6/0 Orange
Tail: Moose Mane
Body: Blue Wing Olive Turkey Biot
Thorax: Hare-Tron Dark Brown Dubbing

I like it, it looks buggy especially with the black bead. I like biot bodies, and the orange thread gives it a nice little hot spot. I've had some decent success tying up my pheasant tail nymphs in the modified version that looks a lot like that.

This is the first fly I have tied with a hot spot. I have seen quite a few patterns using them and I am interested to see how it fishes. Now if it will just quit snowing.

There's a great video on this from Tightline Productions. Find it at Orvis News or Midcurrent.

I really like the thread. It'll catch the trouts eye. Orange is always a good trigger color.

Backtrax not trying to steal your thunder. Your fly design is yours, and I think you made a good choice using moose fibers for the tail, very durable. The biot you used can be tied using the other side to look more like this fly, but i like the way you tied the biot better. I think it looks more gill like. Most nymphs have gills along their sides. As far as the hot spot goes my initial impression is that it may help. Orange is one of the colors that remain the same deep into the water column. I think the big advantage is a small fly with a narrow profile that sinks quick. I think the Copper John is a good example.
