After a flop on Friday I tried to lower my expectations. I told Nathan if I caught 3 fish today it would be a good day as we ate breakfast. After a short drive we made it to a nice blue line. Was surprised to see Byron and Paula there in their fishing kayaks period let alone on a busy Saturday. I guess he just had to use that new trailer he was talking about all week:rolleyes:

They did put down their rods and hotdog a bit in the water to show off their whitewater moves

Luckily they couldn't paddle upstream, so we set off to fish. Water temp was 50:biggrin:

First fish, not much but he counts

And first Brookie a few minutes later.

The streamside beauty

And they were taking dry flies

Water is still pretty clear this time of year. Better safe than sorry

I love this stretch of water

I jump ahead then shortly hear Nathan shout. He walks up to me and shows me this. He was crossing the stream and saw something spinning in an eddy and grabbed it. Anyone know what kind of fish it is? A Darter of some sort? I emailed pics to Matt Kulp so should have an answer soon if no one here knows. Spiky Monster fish

A few minutes later I found this in the stream. It was full of gravel and spent at least the Winter. If it's yours let me know.

Saw 2 species of Mayflies out. One was blueish so I'm going with Blue Quill. Other was Brown(Quill Gordon March Brown?)

Matt already replied to my email. 8PM on a Saturday:eek:
Pretty impressive:biggrin:

A somewhat decayed mottled sculpin. The spikes are anal fin rays that the tissue has decayed away from leaving only the fun rays (spikes).

Another mystery solved:biggrin:

I don't tend to fish roadside much. If you like to hike (including off trail), and like crawling on your belly to get through the rhodo:biggrin: then I'd be happy to show you around sometime:smile:

Boy did we have fun. This is the largest river we have paddled. Made it through a lot of Class V rapids without flipping over. We are lucky Ducky showed us how to do this. By the way, that dead sculpin was about 8 feet long and smelled terrible.
