My family and I will arrive in Townsend on June 3rd. Camping at Tremont Hills. Every year we go my daughter and I choose a nice day hike. Last time, we hiked to Mt. LeConte.......this old man is still not over that hike.... :P We have chose to hike to the Ramsey Cascades. Something tells me I could find some nice fishing holes on the way. Should I pack along my 4 wt. rod also? Thanks for any info you folks could give me.

:) Good morning Flyer, that is a great hike that you are speaking of and there are plenty of trout along the way. I would caution you to be careful if you take the rod along. That stream can be pretty tough on the body. Be sure to take the camera along because you're going to be passing thru a section that has some of the largest trees in the Eastern part of the United States. Tell us about the trip after you get back. Enjoy it.

oh yes, I definitely will take plenty of pics. Got a feeling my daughter would rather I leave the flyrod at camp anyway. She knows how that deal would go, "Just one more cast and Dad will be ready to go".. ;D
Thanks for the info folks and we are chomping at the bit to get to Smokies!!!

there is plenty of good fishing there. i fished porter creek this week and had great dry fly action. it is my favorite spring fishery in the smokies. also fished the middle prong right below the ramsey cascade trailhead on the way out and landed a dozen trout in less than 30 minutes (all small with par markings though ::) ). i saw 2 other fisherman in 7 hours of fishing.
