Can anybody provide any info. on the Big South Fork National Recreation Area? I will be camping there in October at the Bandy Creek Campground.
Is there any trout water nearby? Any guides to recommend?

The Clinch River looks to be about 45 minutes to an hour away.

Depending where you are in Big South, Rock Creek in McCreary Co., KY is not too far away. It's a pretty nice area to fish if you can avoid the worm dunkers and corn tossers.

Rock Creek is a good stream.
By October the water will be low but don't let that stop you from fishing. I've had some great fishing there in the fall.
There is a road (on the KY side) running along this creek for much of its length that gives you access to some good water. Hit the holes, there are some very large ones that seem to hold fish all year.
The fish seem to like small stonefly nymphs and bead head patterns like, pheasant tail, prince, and hare's ears. Don't forget light and dark woolly buggers. The drys I use are on the small side and are usually yellow stimulators, EH caddis and para adams.

Thanks to all for the replies. I've also learned that the creeks immediately near my campground are pretty good smallmouth territory. I'll try to let you know how I did.
