View Full Version : Backcountry Fishing
I'm new to fly fishing and have a desire to get off the beaten path and fish a back country stream. I'm not yet ready for an overnight stay so it will be just for the day. I'm seeking information about the Bote Mountain Trail. Can someone provide me some information about streams in that area.
How far of a hike is required to get to fishable areas?
Does the trail start above Tremont or is the TurkeyPen area a better trail head point?
Any suggestions on files for that area?
Thanks in advance for any information.

bote mtn trail is a little over 2 miles to the west prong of the little river at campsite 18
or you can take the west prong trail from tremont to the same campsite - it's 2.7 miles and a litlle tougher hike - about 50 minutes
I don't know how the fishing is there now, but good water
check the fishing report on this site - it is very informative
Attractor dries with a dropper greenie weenie or bead head pheasant tail or terrestrials (ant, hopper, beetle)
Thanks TN Hound! It looks like the trial starts just off of Laurel Creek Rd. and travels to the West Prong. I'll probably try that route sometime soon rather than the 2.7 from Treemont but I'm not going to be able to this weekend.
I appreciate your response and input.

I've tried both ways. The trail from Tremont area is very hard to follow and rougher. Beautiful though.
The one off Laurel Creek road is basically up and over the mountain, quicker and easier with gear, if your intention is just to camp and fish. I haven't been there is a few years, but there were tons of small rainbows up there once.
Thanks for the information about the trail. I'm looking forward to giving it a try sometime soon.
