View Full Version : Little River Fishing this weekend?
10-06-2006, 03:03 PM
I just returned from Elkmont campground a few minutes ago. I went up this morning to set my tent for the weekend. The storm we had last night here has caused a rock slide on little river road somewhere between Elkmont turnoff and the intersection of the Y. The road is closed to traffic right now but hopefully will reopen sometime this weekend. Anyone traveling to the campground may not be able use this road today. Little River Trout may get a break from us fishermen this weekend.

The latest update: 3:25 pm
I called and spoke with the GSMNP public affairs office. They told me that a rock slide occurred at the "Indian Head" a rock outcropping that overhangs Little River Road below the Sinks. The slide has been cleared but they are unsure of the stability of the rock outcrop.
Until further notice, the Little River Road is CLOSED between the Townsend "Y" and the Metcalf Bottoms Picnic Area. The upper part of Little River and the Elkmont Campground can be accessed through the Wear Cove entrance to the park. (this is in Wears Valley, the road is Lyons Spring Road). Large RV's and heavy vehicles are not permitted through that entrance and will have to access Elkmont via Gatlinburg.
