What flies do i need to be tying now to be ready for Spring? What are you favorite early Spring patterms?

Thanks.

:) Griff, you can get lots of names to start off with but you need to also make plans to attend the Flytiers Weekend events that LRO will be providing over the next several weeks. Not only will you learn which patterns to have but you will see them tied as well.

One fly I have grown to love for early spring is the Mr. Rapidan. I tie it as a parachute and as a classic dry fly. Early season fish seem to trigger on the yellow. Also, the yellow post/wing is very easy for me to see in the water. I've never tied it as an emerger. I may try that this year. I tie it in sizes 14 & 16.

For Hatch Matching Situations
Early Spring
Blue dun- #16-18
Quill Gordon #12-16
April
Light Hendrickson #12-14
A Rusty Spinner with a Yellow Egg Sac #12-14
March Brown #12
Elk Hair Caddis Gray-#14-18

Late May- June Sulfur Parachutes (#12) which I tie about one size large than the actual fly.

General Attractor Dries- A parachute Adams and a Mr. Rapidan.

I'm shifting almost all my Mayfly dries to a Parachute and am currently tying the above as parachutes.
