View Full Version : Gaintfish first fly!

Taught Gaintfish how to tie a wolly bugger yesterday. He stood behind me as I tied one. Didn't ask one question. Told him that the Hackle was the 2nd hardest part to learn, whip finish being the hardest. His mother and I went to the store, when I came back asked him if he tried to tye one. He pointed to his desk, there laid a wooly bugger next to the one I tied. Hackle was a little rough, other than that it looked good. I hope it will at least catch one fish before it comes undone.
P.S. Paula I love the dyna vise I ordered. Thanks

Congrats to Giantfish! Catching a fish on a fly you've tied is a great experience...retire that fly once a fish has been caught on it. Then you can have the memories. I often retire flies that produce memorable days or memorable fish. I've got several in a special section of a fly box that are retired and each one has a special memory attached... Be sure and let us know how the fishing goes with the newly tied flies. 8-)

Glad you like the vise...and so happy Giantfish has tied his first fly! I will never forget my first fly...an olive elk caddis that Byron taught me to tie. The second pattern was a pheasant tail that totally fell apart on the most beautiful brown trout caught at Cataloochee! I still have that ratty fly!
