Any new toy stories?
Been meaning to post this for some time.
Prior to X-Mas I was spending some time on-line looking at the Sage 3wt's and making notes. * X-mas morning were enjoying the kids opening their gifts when my wife hands me a 3ft tube(Apparently she had been checking out my history on the computer and reading my notes). *I open it to find a new Sage 3wt, 3 piece,7'10 TXL! And, 3100 large arbor reel loaded with a Quiet DT line. *Wow! *I found it very difficult to concentrate on the kids at that point for some reason. *
Anyhow, What a sweet rod and reel, and light(I owe her big!). *I can put a dry on a quarter with this thing! *Can't wait for spring in the smokies. *Anybody have any experience with this rod or reel or any stories to share?
Byron/Paula - I noticed that you don't have these on the catalog. *Are you not stocking this series?

wow. if I were going to buy a sage, that would be the exact size/weight/model I would get. what is the action on this rod?

It's a medium/fast action.
Some specs: *TXL- (Trout Extra Light)
Rod- *2 1/4oz, light and sensitive. loads quickly(IMO)
Reel- 2 3/4 0z, click&pawl
* My old orvis reel alone weighs as much as these combined
I don't think I have to worry about arm fatigue..
Might consider the 0,or 00 sometime in the future(FUN)

Custom Lamiglass 763-4 pc for the mountains, a Cloudburst /Fishpond bag for fishing from the boat & a new fishing shirt.
My son got a custom Winnie WT, i was sort of hoping he wouldn't like it, after all, he did want a Clearwater rod :-[

Christmas morning i woke up and opened up a winston bIIx 8'6" 3wt with a nautilus featherweight reel on it. I know the feeling!!!! Mine is a sweet rod as well as i've already used it. Gotta love those small rods!

enjoy your new setup (like that wouldn't happen)...

Great stories so far guys and thanks for the comments and compliments.
Funny thing, my wife does indeed have a sister. A UT grad, No kids, beautiful, and now works for 0'Charly's Headquarters. $$Ching-Ching!! She could probably leave you some really nice X-mas presents if you could ever pry her away from her work... I guess that's way she's still single!
Enjoy all that good stuff this spring. DryFly1

I don't know if this counts as a new toy but my wife talked me into getting a small camper this fall " early Christmas present" so we could spend more time in the Mtns and I woudn't have to spend several hours setting up the tent, tarps and the inflatable mattresses for us and the kids. No more packing everything into the vehicle and trying to fit us in there also. I am sure some of you know what I am talking about ;) This will give me at least 4 more hours of FISHING time! ;D I'll take that anytime I can get it!

Excellent Point Troutman.
Got a friend who has a little pop-up camper who I go FF with occasionally. In addition to what you mentioned, sure is warm and cozy on those frosty fall nights. My kids love to tent camp as do I(the more primative the better),however,my wife isn't to keen on the whole "Primative" thing,so I may eventually have to look at a camper purchase.

Good question. We just started selling Sage Rods in September. We were told by the local Sage folks that the TXL has not sold well in the United States but it's a hit in Japan. So we didn't order any. Now we've found customers here, like yourself who love them. I guess we have more small stream anglers than most shops and our customers are from all over the country. Daniel is getting ready to put them in the Online Catalog now and we'll make some changes and have some by Spring.
If there is anything we don't have we can usually get it in a week and overnight if we have to so please ask.
Thanks for your inquiry.

Didn't know they weren't selling well in the USA(STRANGE). I guess that explains why I haven't seen much discussion about the TXL. *All I can say is "I love it" and all my friends are extremely jealous. * Maybe I can call Sage and be the U.S. spokesperson for this series!!- wishfull thinking....

this is really strange but I did receive a Sage TXL under the tree, except it came in the form of a bench top belt/drum sander. As it turns out the unit was defective and upon returning to the store no alternative was available so I had to request a refund......whaaa laaaaa........a Sage TXL kit for me to build for myself.......although i will probably have to p/u another sander later on, for now.....I will get the Sage rod I've been dreaming of.........
thinking of getting a 2wt CFO to put on it after I get it put together.....unless Byron has another suggestoin...

I'd like to cast one of those 00wt txl s.

Hey Buckeye, let us know how that TXL turns out. *If you go to Trout Fest, bring it along I'd like to see it. what's the specs?
ttas67, **- *me too. That "00" would be a great blue liner!!
01-16-2007, 07:39 AM
should have it and finish it by Troutfest.....still trying to decide between the weight, but think I'll go with the 7'10" 2wt. They do have the lighter one available but i'm not sure about going that light.........anyways, I'll definately bring it in May cause I'll want to get in the water with it.........
01-16-2007, 11:57 AM
7'10, 2wt- Sweet! That blank is only 7/8oz!
You looking at the CFO 1 - 3 1/4oz?
By the time you get all your hardware on the blank it should match up nicely with the CFO...
I'll bring my 3wt TXL and we can compare.
Have you decided on line?

haven't got as far as line yet, just getting ready to order the rod kit so I can get started......will p/u the reel from LRO and talk to them about line recomendations........
