I know you can take the trail from either side of Bote Mt. to get to site #18, but can you get in the water and fish up to it relatively easy? I know there's no official trail, and I've fished a little ways in from the road, but didn't know how reasonable it would be to go all the way to #18. If so how long would it take to fish up to #18 from the road?

Any thoughts are appreciated. I've never been up to the site and would like to check it out. I'd prefer to fish along the way, but I'll take the trail if I need to.

Thanks!
Kevin

Kevin,

Been wanting to check BC18 out myself. Give us an update of how the trip goes. Wonder if there's any good size Bow's?

When I go, I think I'll hike in from Tremont on West Prong Trail, set up camp and walk down stream and fish up. Don't mind covering ground twice, get to scout the stream and view the scenery first.

Good luck -DryFly1

Rumor is that the fish are small, but they don't see as much pressure...

DryFly1- the trail from Tremont is very rough and hard to follow, I'd suggest coming up from the road. A lot of trout!!!! But the trout were very small a year or two ago, but then some otters were working up there and may have thinnned them out so they'll be bigger, Great site going to try it again this summer!!

Randy,

Thanks for the info. Sounds like a great way to spend the day.
Very rough and hard to follow you say? Now I'm really excited! Sounds like the trail for me.

The trail leaving from the road to Cades Cove is pretty much a wide steep up and down over the hill- if you bring in a lot of gear THIS IS the way to go. If you want to camp and fish several days this would be probably the best trail. The trail from Tremont is a lot longer, zig zag's all over the place. There are trail junctions on top that were not marked. I had a lot of problems losing the trail several times during the early summer. It is not very well marked make sure you have a map!

Byron and I used to go to campsite 18 A LOT. It is one of my favorite places!

Bote Mountain Trail is a wide boulevard trail that goes up 1.2 miles of nice steady incline to the West Prong trail where you have about .8 down...kinda winding.

West Prong trail is about straight up for one mile...and then about straight down for about a mile.

The fish are small, but eager.

We have never gone in via the stream, although we have had a friend who met us in there once while we were camping, and that is how he came in. The map makes it look like about a mile of water from the road to site 18.
