New to board and sport

Hello all,

I registered on this board because 700 is my lucky number. Just kidding.

Really, I've been lurking in the corner for a little while reading what all of you have to say about fly fishing, trying to learn as much as I can. I moved to East TN in March of last year from FL, where my fishing experince consisted of cranking back on big, dumb fish. Don't get me wrong, I love it, but since I've moved here I've been obsessed with fishing for wild trout. I spent a half day with Walter Babb with my Dad and uncle for fathers day and caught a beautiful 4 incher, and it was all over. I've since got a little extra Christmas cash and picked up a rod, reel, line, and waders from LRO (much thanks to Glenn, and Daniel for spending like 2 hours with someone with no clue). My problem is, everyone I know is a sissy and thinks that fly fishing is too much work and a waste of a Sunday. So, I would love to meet a few people to fish with that wouln't mind giving me a pointer or two.

And welcome to the wonderful art of Fly Fishing. The fact that you have developed a passion for fly fishing says alot about you! I wouldn't concern my self to much with what other people think. March to your own drum. If you want to meet fellow FF's,come to the cookout that we are planning(watch posts for details). I think if you PM some folks here anyone would be willing to spend a 1/2 day or so with you. If you ever want to fish the Caney just PM me and we will wet a line.

DryFly1 - thats funny, I am a drummer, a marching one at that. Hey, thanks a lot guys. This is great. Between LRO staff and you two, I've never felt so accepted into something I know nothing about. Usually have to deal with ego, etc. As soon as it warms a bit, expect a pm. I'm in Seymour btw, right between knoxville and the mountains :)

Hey Patillac, welcome to E. TN., the mecca of southern fly fishing. I live in Seymour also. Send a PM if you want to get out and explore some of the local streams sometime. You might want to go to the next Little River Trout Unlimited meeting this Thursday evening. The Park biologist are talking about the next projects that are planned for the Smokies streams. It is a good way to learn more about the area and meet other flyfishers as well. It's only a thirty minute drive over to Maryville.

patillac, welcome to the board, and anytime you want to go fishing, let me know. as tennswede said, I'll be in the mountains almost every weekend here soon too. I'm in downtown knoxville and drive right through seymour on my way to the mountains. If you haven't figured it out yet, there are some great little short cut backroads through seymour right into townsend.

Welcome to the board and to the fine sport of fly fishing. Fly fishing is a lifetime of learning. We're all in the same process. Getting on the stream with some of these guys will cut the learning curve a lot. Please ask any questions that come to mind either here on the board or at LRO.
