Caney has been fishing well when they pulse water, lots of big Rainbows and Browns have been caught. I hear reports that the low water is fishing well after it falls out all they way but I havenít been fishing low water at all,,,, yet. There was a substantial Shad kill this year and I assume it has a lot to do with the lake level being as low as it is. I havenít seen many Shad the last few trips to the upper river so I assume it might be almost overÖ This is good news to the waders who are nymph fishing.

The last few weeks Iíve been on the lower section where it seems everything is swimming up river to spawn and the fishing has been phenomenal. Iíve had trips where we caught Striper, Trout, Stripe, Walleye, Skipjack, and Smallmouth on the same trip. At one time the Stripe (nice fat ones) were soo thick it was a fish on every cast. Clousers (as if thereís another fly) accounted for most all the fish. Most of the fish were of the striped variety but to hook an occasional Smallie or Walleye was a real bonus.

The shot at a good Striper on the fly is at its prime right now on the Cumberland below Cordell Hull and the first 8 miles of river. Striper fishing was really picking up but this cold snap might slow it down a little. We have seen and got to sight fish to some submarines pushing a wake in 4í of water on a couple of trips, no hook ups though. It wonít be easy on the fly and it isnít a wine and cheese trip, but if you can put in the effort it just might pay off with a fish of giant proportions and an adrenaline rush like you wonít believe. Shooting heads, 10-11wts, and big flies will be the ticket.

I couldnít figure out how to post pics so I linked to some reports with photos from my site. Byron I hope this isnít against the rules but I understand if it is.

Mike, nice pictures. Great report. No problem as long as you aren't selling fly fishing tackle. Paula and I might be booking you one day.
