fished elkmont today.....went up to higher elevations and my wife not only caught her first trout but she caught a nice 10-12'' brookie on a dry!
we fished back towards the cabins and caught some on bead heads.
My wife officially has the fever!

Sure that was a Brookie?? 10 - 12 is rather large for a brookie. Heck, 10 - 12 is great for any kind of wild trout in these small streams! So congrats and go fever!!

if it was a brook trout, that's huge! congratulations to her.
I caught a 12" brown at metcalf a week or so ago. there was a guy pretty close by the bank watching me, and he asked if it was a brookie. I told him it was a brown. he said he'd caught one about that size earlier on a stimi and thought it was a brook trout. the browns down there have some brightly colored orange spots on them right now. I could see how he could've mistaken it if he'd never really seen a brookie.
I don't doubt there are some larger brookies up high. I've never been able to catch one though.
