View Full Version : Fishing the Cataloochee???
In two weeks I will be headed to the Cataloochee. Does anyone have any advice that might increase the success of my trip.

I was able to fish it one morning during our recent trip, or at least the Palmer Creek section, from the bridge to just a little past the horse camp. It seemed to be doing pretty well - that part of the park has been getting some rain. Probably the #1 piece of advice would be to get there early; even though Cataloochee is isolated and takes a while to get to, there were still a lot of campers there, along with other tourists. However, it doesn't take long to get away from them.
Any fly in yellow seemed to be working pretty good. Also, look for for the riffles - any water that is moving pretty well, and fish the "seams" on the edges of that water.

cataloochee creek is awesome. It's got a very different feel than most of the other park streams. however, I believe it's sort of hit or miss. in my own experience, you'll either have one of your best days of fishing, or one of your worst. let us know how it goes, I'd be interested to see how it's fishing. you won't be sorry you went there, it's one of the most beautiful places in the park.
