Spent the morning fishing with Ben aka "brownhunter" in the hills of S.C. Ben was nice enough to show me one of his secret brookie spots. Parked the car at approx. 6:15 a.m. and made the approx 4 mile walk to the stream. The stream was incredibly beautiful, but is in need of rain in a bad way. Fortunately for the fish, Ben took a temperature reading of 61 at approx. 9:00 a.m. At least these little guys still have reasonably cool water during the drought. We fished approx. 3 hours, and probably managed about 5-6 fish each. Numbers would have been better, but I missed quite a few on the hookset. Ben had the fish of the day come undone, and it was a solid 9-10" brookie. Here's a few pictures of the trip.

Ben's most prized catch. This guy couldn't have been 3 inches, and he attacked Ben's #12 dry.

It sure was a great day to be out. Most of the fish were hooked on a dry and they were feisty. It really was a lot of fun to meet a new fly fisherman close by. I have a few pics of the day as well, but don't think I have enough posts to be able to post them. Oh well, thanks Matt for a wonderful day.

Great pictures. I am wanting to return to the gorges but have been concerned about the lack of rain and the water levels. Look's like you both did okay and you must say it is some of the prettiest scenery anywhere.

It is gorgeous, but we weren't in the Jocassee Gorges if that is the area you are talking about. I have fished that recently and it has a little bit more water than what we saw today. This particular stream was as low as high have ever seen it. We need rain in a bad way.

Sounds like y'all guys had a great day today. I would agree that although the mountains has gotten some rain recently, they were so far behind that it didn't dent it nearly as much as one would think. Shawn and i got out today, too. I will post a report later, prepare for a doozy!

If you uplaod your photos to Photobucket and then plug the IMG code into your post here on this board, you shouldn't have any problems posting pics. We all would love to see them!

brownhunter, it wasn't necessary to clarify. I love fishing the highlands and the gorges but am protective of giving away too much information about the area. Great report.
