I was wondering if you have any info on the old William Walker home site? I just read a couple of good books I got in the visitor center and am fascinated with the info on the Walkers and the old springs resorts etc. Just wonder what evidence is still there and the best way to get to it for some photographs. I appreciate it.--Bran

are you talking about black bill walker from the tremont area?
I think that's the same. I was just reading about him and how his land was some of the last to be logged. What I may do is just get with you next summer and hike in to see some of the old home sites.

walker's home site is gone now.....but there are plenty of other's. it was some of the last to be logged. black bill was a reknowned bear hunter and had a rifle called "mr. Death". he also had 23 children by 3 different women.

the other william walker was the father of the 7 walker sisters. their home still stands.
I went back to the "Last train to Elkmont" book and that is the same Walker with the rifle "Mr. Death". He seems to have been a fascinating character. I would love to learn more about him. Any other books reference him or shed more light?--Bran

bran, go to this site www.gsmit.org/about-gsmit/walkervalley_history.html
big will is the same person as black bill.
Thanks Sam, I enjoyed that. The whole story of the Walkers is just fascinating to me. Mr. Walker (big Will) seems to be one of those larger than life characters. I think I know where to start looking though when I get back out in the spring, I'd like to see some of those CCC ruins from the 30's and look for where the cabins were that Big Will built. Pretty neat!!
