I came across this article about genetic engineered corn and its effect on headwaters. I don't know very much about the issue, but I found it interesting if not a little alarming.

TroutDude, this was an article published this Summer for peer review. If I can find the link, there is another article from graduate students at Iowa State and others giving the benefits of using Bt corn and one of the arguments for its use is the reduction of pesticides and herbicides that also are considered harmful to watersheds due to runoff. Bt corn was developed with the Cry1 gene because certain pest (corn worms) die when ingesting it. There have been arguments about concerns of cross-pollination which so far have been proven unfounded (the plants are sterile so they can't cross pollinate) by other large universities, including the University of Tennessee.
