Ocean kayak?

A friend gave me an ocean kayak last week and I'm thinking of using it to float from Bob's gas to my house on River Ford Rd. The plan is to use the kayak to get to some nice shoals and wade fish. I'll definitly wait for the water to warm up, but are there any issues I should be aware of? I'm still looking to get a canoe so I can do this float with my wife or son. Thanks!

I know of a few folks that float it for smallmouth. I'll give it a go when things warm up. I'm looking forward to my first smallmouth on the fly!
