Smallies in Asheville area
I am thinking of retiring near Asheville - make a circle with Waynesville - Hendersonville - Black Mtn - Weaverville. I am more of a Smallie freak than a Trouter. In the area described above, how is the Smallie fishing and what waters would I want to check out? I'm not looking for honey holes, just names of rivers and creeks that are a good place to start exploring and looking for a home. Many thanks.
If anyone is coming to Ohio, I'd be glad to share my experiences with you - Smallies, Browns, and Steelies. |
Rick,
I'm also a Smallie fan, I live in VA though so I can't give a lot of help for that area. If you'll go over to the warm water section (Forum) and repeat it there I have a feeling you'll get some action. --Bran |

Smallies
I don't know much in the way of River fishing, but Fontana Lake is slap full of Beautiful healthy Large small mouth. I fell in love with the dry fly about 3 years ago and haven't been after the small mouth in a while, but my father and Cousin go almost every Sunday through the winter and Spring. I live here in Waynesville and have also heard that the Pigeon has a healthy population as well.

Asheville is surrounded by some prime smallie water. Feel free to email me anytime and I will fill you in...
