The Road

In his national best seller book, "The Road," author Cormac McCarthy makes two provocative references to trout. Thanks to my son for loaning his copy. I highly recommend it.

he grew up in Knoxville and went to UT, but you probably already know that. His novel "Sutree" takes place in Knoxville.

No, I didn't know that. Interesting.

John Ehle wrote a novel called 'The Road' as well [1966 IIRC] which is set in the Carolina mtns. Ehle is a NC writer-considered 'regional'. Oddly enough, his style has the noir aspects of Cormac. Ehle has several books based in the appalachians and on 'mountain' society. Ghost

The movie opens Nov 25. I don't think we're going to enjoy the images of the streams.

Is The Road partially set in the Smokys? Given that it is post-apocalyptic movie I would think you are right about not enjoying the images of the streams.

You could easily conclude the book was based on crossing the S. Appalachian Mtns someplace and going in the direction of the Carolina coast. Being its the Park's anniversary, hopefully the screen writer chose not show it devastated.

Not that it would come out from watching the flick, but one photo on the promo web site looks a lot like the Lakeview Drive bridge over Noland Creek. Using that stretch of pavement for a scene would be pretty fitting given its infamous alias, The Road to Nowhere.
