Most Active Season?
I have an aversion to heat (thank to the Army and the Middle East! lol), so I don't like to go anywhere in the Summer except to my air conditioned living room! What are the best seasons, in order, in your opinion, to fish the Smokies, OR is there no difference? Thanks,

BRF Rookie Trout Fisherman

Hot weather,
Wear shorts, stand in a nice pool and cool off,
cold weather wear waders dont' stand in stream as much,
Fish year round.

All vaild answers, but what season is best?! I would guess in the Spring, but it's just a guess.

Thanks! I'll take all the info that I can get...I don't have a lot of extra cash for travelin' so I like to maximize my opportunities.

I would guess April and May are the best times, my dad and I went out to the Caney Fork sometime in mid-May and absolutely had a ball. We didn't keep track but we caught fish every cast (spin fishing, I went out on a limb to learn fly fishing). I caught a monster rainbow that day, 22" and probably 3 pounds. The next day they didn't generate and I had to go to school so my dad took my brother with him (he was back from college on break) and my dad caught a 24" brown that was pretty fat.
*I was pretty tired, took 15-20 minutes to get him in*
And the brown my dad caught on Powerbait, browns usually don't take Powerbait

Late spring and early summer is probably best, but im also with redfish62. Year round baby! I'll be pulling trout in regardless:cool:. Worrgames, those are some nice fish.

They're the biggest we've ever caught, definitely some fish from last year at earliest. When the Caney stocked brookies they went absolutely wild for a burgundy knockoff rooster tail that looks a lot like a wooly bugger. But I have to say late spring when the water starts to warm up from the winter chill and insects start to hatch. Trout are definitely the acrobats of the fish world
