North Side of Park
Thinking about hitting up Big Creek or some streams in Cataloochee, any suggestions? I have not been to that part of the park often, but want to give it a shot.

I fished the park quite a bit several years ago when I worked at UT. I fished mostly the Little, Greenbrier some and Abrams. Really like Greenbrier, but just looking for some new water.

Coming into town for a short family gathering, really looking forward to being on those streams again. I will be staying on the north side of Gburg.

thanks for any info,

I bet there'll be a lot of people at the Big Creek campsite this weekend. Beware of rock chuckers.

I am not planning on being there until April 14, 15, 16 and 17. But the weather does look good for this weekend.

Does that campsite get hit heavy on the weekends?

It's always full when I've been there!

Being early in the season you might have a chance, but wildflowers are starting to bloom and the masses should arrive shortly. Everybody I talked to always says how nice the site is and how they've "wanted" to camp there. I saw a handicapped spot open once.

If you want to stay in that area either hike in 4 or 5 miles to a backcountry campsite, or there is a hostel 2 miles away where you could crash pretty cheap. If your interested I have the name , number, and directions somewhere

Big Creek is average at best, plenty of fish, just not very productive as far as size goes. Any of the feeder creeks in Cataloochee are pretty good. Palmer, Caldwell, and Rough Fork should all fish good this time of year.;)

thanks for the info guys. I never knew about hostels in the area. But we will not need them on this trip, we are renting a cabin. Meeting my wife's family there for the weekend, which is why I am going out fishing.

I was in Cataloochee Yesterday. A little more crowded than I wanted for a Monday, middle of the day. The bridgbe is out at thr group campground, as I am not sure which direction you are coming from, I suggest allowing for a little extra time. That rocklside is still a headache.
