Greenbriar Goldrush?
****ation! Maybe I'm in the wrong business!

So this afternoon I'm winding along on 416 looking at the River and see this dude wrestling big rocks about so he can shovel gravel into 5 gallon pails... he had two gold pans (green & blue) and was wearing hip boats.....

I cannot imagine anyone going to that much effort if he didn't expect to cash in.... but then again I think about all the time I've splashed about in rivers on the chance that I might fool a few fish.

Maybe I ought to look into gettin one them gold pans...... you know just in case there ain't no hatch.

I watched a guy set up a mini sluce and shovel gravel into it in walland 2 years ago. He then showed me how to pan, and in minutes found a few specs of gold. With gold at over a grand an ounce, the idea has crossed my mind...

What fun it would be to pan for gold:). I think the big issue is the 'Claim'. Most people probably could pan as a hobby; but, once someone starts making some money-it is all over. The City, County, State, Federal, land owner, etc. will put a stop to it. I think there are a few areas where you can get permits/claims to pan for gold.

There was an actual "gold rush" on Coker Creek many years ago.

Corbo--If the panning was going on inside Park boundaries it was illegal, although it seems that these days rangers concentrate almost all their enforcement activities on traffic, parking lots, and front country issues.
