realistic caterpillar fly
 

There was a discussion a few months ago concerning tying "caterpillars" . I came across this thread this morning on FLYTYINGFORUM.COM. Scrolling down under REALISTIC FLIES, look up "simple caterpillar, step by step." This is a simple enough tie to be classified as a "Guide Fly". As one who believes, terrestrials are an extremely important food source for Smokies trout, I'll be tying a number of these.

I am not sure about if the caterpillars are out or not; but, I expect they will be starting up. I like tying caterpillars with deer fur and hackle. They it seems they present with a peculiar wobble while going through ripples.:rolleyes:
