LPR Again
 

Got back out on the little pigeon Sunday morning and this evening. Caught 8-10 fish Sunday on stealth bombers and wiggle minnows. Caught a mix of smallies, red eye, and two small spotted bass. Nothing of any size Sunday. Today I threw slumpbusters and zonkers. Had plenty of takes and two nice smallies. The second one had about an inch of a tube jig sticking up from its throat.

Thanks though I suspect it has more to do with the fish being dumber some days more than others. I began targeting warmwater species almost exclusively last year.I haven't caught a trout in over a year now though I began fly fishing on the south holston and watauga rivers. I really enjoy tossing streamers and tying them as well.also smallmouth rivers are the closest rivers to my house.

Again, love those tigers... as they say, "that's a nice'n !" I was about to head out down there, but a broken mower and even taller grass derailed me. I hear ya about the targeting the warmwater - definitely a closer option as well...but even more so for me its tough to sometimes choose between tailwater trout and Smokies trout and smallies and carp and stripers and hopefully some day musky and .... :)

Man, I wish i could catch them on those "dumb" days. Everytime I go they are Harvard graduates! :biggrin:

I am definitely gettin more into the warmwater pursuits. It has been 4 months since I have stepped foot into a trout stream. I miss it too, but I am only going to fish for trout up in the smokies mainly. The South Holston is probably my favorite. Maybe even more so than the White in Arkansas. It may not have the numbers of large trout like the White, but the numerous 16-18 browns make up for that in my eyes. The few tailwaters close to me have not been stocked in ages and not looking to be anytime soon. I'd rather pursue wild trout anyways!

One of the biggest reasons I don't fish tailwaters much anymore is the shoulder to shoulder fishing it seems to be now. The rivers get so crowded you're basically stuck to one run all day. I like to move around and cover a lot of water when I fish. Plus, the only time I've ever seen my backing while fishing has come from warmwater species (carp). :biggrin:.
