Bald River overnight with family
 

bhrt & myself took our famlilies & dogs on a short overnight trip to the Bald this past weekend. We packed up everything (pretty sure there was a kitchen sink in my pack) and hit the trail around noon saturday after a delicious lunch at Tellico grains. We couldn't have asked for any better weather.

This was an experimental trip, as neither of the babies (now toddlers) had been on a backpacking trip before. We weren't sure what to expect or what we might need, so we made camp fairly close to the trailhead.

I think everyone got a little time on the water. Even little Crosby got a taste of the 6 1/2' glass 3wt that will be his one day. As usual, most of the fish were 7-9" rainbows, and were caught on a mix of dries, green weenies, & tellico nymphs. bhrt and I got to spend a good bit of time on the river Sunday morning. I couldn't get a bite on the dry fly, but they were really hammering a tellico nymph. Some of the fish were jumping 3 feet out of the water multiple times.

It was a great time, and I think next time we'll hike a little further and make it a 2 night trip. And of course make the dogs carry more beverages. Here are some more random pictures.

I'm encouraged by your trip that it's possible to still have a life after kids. The copperhead picture coming right after the child shot gave me the creeps! Congrats on what appears to have been a very successful overnighter with the family.

And it only gets better! Thats gonna be one heck of a rock-hopping mountain man one day!
Cool pic of the copperhead. I have seen more snakes in the past 2 months than I have in the past 2 years. Glad I haven't seen any of the more dangerous kind.

Nicely done Cody. Give me a yell when you wanna hit the tailwater. I haven't been able to get out much lately, but itching to go.

Looks like you guys are both doing a great job getting the families out. I desperately need to get my twins out, and hope this will help encourage me.

And nice pic of Sui-slide. Some fellers made it look pretty easy in a canoe so maybe I should give it a shot someday. Before seeing it run I looked at it and instantly said "Heck No" or something to that effect:biggrin:
