#24 Bear Warning
 

I see that #24 is back on the bear warning list for about a week now. I understand it is regularly on the warning list or closed due to bears. Does anyone know what particular incident caused the latest addition to the warning list?

Since it just a warning, not a closure, there probably wasn't an incident, just an increased # of sitings in the area. seems like 24 is a mainstay on that list.

we have reservations there for the forth..my wife says were going to get ate by bears,i told her i have a plan she said whats that i said gana run, she said you cant out run a bear told her didnt plan on it,gana kick you in the knee and take off just have to out run you..:biggrin:

I remember the bear population being estimated at 500 bears back in the 80's.I recently read a report where the population is around 5,000 bears.

I remember fishing about a hundred days a year from 91 to 95 and rarely seeing bears.Now I see bears or bear sign almost every time I fish.I do not stay at designated sites anymore because the bears around the campsites don't run when they see me.The bears I see on the little creeks I fish usually run away or amble behind an obstacle and vanish like a ghost as soon as the see or smell me.I think the ones near the camps equate humans with food especially around horse camps.

I think they just put up the Bear Warning every year around June 1 for 24 and leave it up all summer unless they have to close it. Elkmont is bear-tastic.

I was amazed that there wasn't ANYONE camping there Memorial Day weekend:eek: For a place that supposedly stays so full.

I hear they are really attracted to people who sweat a lot. That way they can add you to your food for flavoring. But thats just what I hear.

There was a good number of folks there. Guess they sweat too much.

When I was there on Sunday afternoon (mem day wknd) the campsite was completely empty. Not even sign of a fire from the night before. Also no people hiking out. I walked from site to site looking for signs of life - and found none. I know I was hot & sweaty, and when I took off my shirt there were at least a dozen honeybees sucking on my sweat off my shirt & pack. Black flies were in full force also.

If there were a good number of folks there they must have been the "Little People" as they were pretty stealth:smile:

Maybe some people stayed there on Friday. Were you up there or something?
