Tying Challenge: Week 1
 

To kick things off I would like to see everyone's favorite (at least that you are willing to post) Little Yellow Stonefly dry fly pattern(s). For this week I'm leaving pattern choice up to you. Next week we will have a specific pattern. If you are fishing or planning on fishing in the mountains this summer you better have some Little Yellow Stonefly patterns close at hand, especially in the evenings.

Remember, this is a great opportunity to learn as well as gain feedback on your creations. This should help all of us who participate become better tiers and maybe we'll even catch more fish because of it. I hope lots of people will jump in and participate.

I'm looking forward to seeing what everyone has to share this week!

Beautiful flies there! Do you mind sharing what the body is? Looks segmented...did you just get that with thread or something else?

There's olesmoke's "mulligan" for ya! Great lookin fly.
I've been remodeling a bathroom every night till about midnight, but i'll try to put up some pictures soon.

I'm going to post a poor picture of an ugly fly just so more folks will post after olesmoke (nice flies). This yellow parachute is an odd Yellow Sally pattern, but when the Yellows are flying the trout tear these things up.

nice fly and that's all that matters...... right? We can leave all the pretty bugs and pictures in the books and pitch what works to the painted fish.Thanks for sharing an idea. Be safe

Old pattern I did for the Little River Journal a couple years ago. Caught a few small ones on it:biggrin: I have a couple others that I've been working on, but I'm always hesitant to show them until I'm sure they will produce with some regularity.

Thread: 8/0 yellow Uni
Egg sack: red superfine
Body: yellow superfine
Wing: yellow CDC (2 or 3 feathers)
Hackle: Grizzly dyed yellow

Those flies make me want to go fish a freestone creek! Peewee, your fly had me trying to figure out what I could trade for one of them, but anything I can tie you can tie better! Steve, I was going to offer you 4 turkey tails for a couple of 'em, but that won't work because I've promised them to you anyway! How about you show me how to tie one at the Pechman Center? All 3 will catch the heck out of fish.

A slight variation on a pattern I have enjoyed fishing for years but have got away from the last couple of years. I need to start tying and fishing it more again because its an easy tie and flat out catches fish.

Hackle: Medium Dun, trimmed flat on the bottom
