Camping near the South Holston?

I'm heading up to the South Holston tailwater next weekend and was wondering where the closest campground to the river is? I will probably be solo with a small tent (i.e. no need for electricity). Any National Forest Campgrounds near? Thanks in advance!

Cinci, should be a KOA in that area if all else fails.

Might want to check out Cherokee Trails Campground and Stables. It is located on the lake and offers tent camping and cabins.

Jacob's Creek Campground

My son and I stayed at the Jacob's Creek Campground in the Cherokee National Forest a little over a year ago, and it was pretty nice. It's on the lake a little ways above the dam but it's not a bad drive to get to the tailwater. You might want to check with them to make sure they haven't cut off the water to the bath houses already before you go. I thought they shut things down for the winter sometime between now and mid-November, but didn't see anything listed on the website: http://www.fs.usda.gov/recarea/chero...34924&actid=42

Cherokee Nat. Forest

While you're there fish Beaver Dam, it is free stone much like the Little River and fishes very similar. We fished it then fished the So.Ho. two days. There is a campground on the Beaver.

Thanks!

I called the CNF Watauga offie and apparently all of the NF campgrounds closed in mid-October (seems very early to me...). I may have to try Cherokee Trails.

Thanks for the advice! Dave

I'll second on cherokee - I've stayed there. Its cheap and close enough to the river with a short drive.

You should definately try the Cherokee Trails place. I stayed in one of the two cabins and while they weren't 5 star facilities, it was a climate controlled room with a roof, beds, and a fridge for cold beverages. Close to the water and very affordable. There is also a "lodge" where you can watch football games if you are so inclined.

Cherokee Trails it is. I have a cabin reserved. Now I'm down to worrying about generation schedules! Thanks guys!

Hope you got to fish today, looked like the window was pretty small. Tomorrow looks good noon-6pm.
