quick question
pretty simple question. Regal or renzetti vise? Your choice and why.
I own a renzetti traveler but am thinking about buying a regal. any thoughts? |

I have used Regal vises since the late 80's, and have never had a problem. I have an Inex which I use for trout flies, and a Medallion which I use for Clousers and other flies that require access to both sides of the hook shank. The hook groove is great for large hooks, and I love the "no adjustment" design.

I have a Regal. One of the models when they first came out. I did have the jaws chip, but Regal made it good in short order. I also have a Renzetti presentation which is the old style with the knob to close the jaws. In addition I have an HMH Spartan which is an excellent vise and well suited for use when traveling. I tie on the Renzetti.

I tie everything from size 20 nymphs up to 1/0 clousers. My renzetti is the one with the knob adjustments and with my clouser arm I can not change to the slip cam design jaws. with my bent arm I can. I tie more poppers and clousers than anything. I am really intrigued with the no adjustment squeeze tention. I have a problem with the renzetti not holding the hooks good and pulling free when I am tying. I have adjusted everything I can.

I ordered the slip cam jaws for my renzetti today. 99.00 but cheaper than a new regal vice. I hope I haven't made a bad decision Seems like most professional tiers I know use the regals

Regal; I had a chip 15 years ago and they replaced it for me too. I cannot stand adjustment knobs. My ONLY difficulty is when I have an occassional hook SHOOT OUT at a hundred miles an hour.... usually size 22.
