Advice for fishing some of the Upper Clinch

Anyone have any suggestions on fishing some of the section of the Clinch above the bridge on Hwy 25 at the intersection of Hwy 33 where we would put in at the launch there?

Thanks ,

Mike

There is no public ramp other than at 25 bridge, Sneedville is the only access and it is about 30 miles up stream. If you want to fish that river you have to get permission to access.

Thanks WW, you confirmed what I suspected, so what is planned is to go upstream and float back down to the ramp at Hwy 25. I am looking for suggestions on what may be biting and what to use.

Smallmouth, redeye, and bream will be the species you are most likely to run into. If you wish to float the stretch from Kyles Ford to Sneedville isn't bad, and there is public access at both locations. Try small wooly buggers, crayfish patterns, or minnow patterns.

Went to the Clinch yesterday at the ramp at Hwy 25 with a friend in his boat and put in there and went upstream first , even though it was more stained. We threw knucklehead, stealth bombers and assorted poppers with no luck. My friend even got out the spinning rod and threw some plugs and lures. Same result. We then went down below the bridge and got into some willing and waiting smalleys. Over the nest couple of hours we caught a dozen smalleys and I know that I missed a half dozen more hits. Can't wait to go back when we have more time than we had this outing.

Not bad and based on the flows you did really well. I checked the gauge just now and the river is extremely high. When they drop Norris down around 1015 that area below the bridge turns to river again and holds some seriously large bass.

That and the fact that I didn't take the time to throw any buggers or clowsers makes me even more anxious to give it another go. Also, we had the river to ourselves.

You would be better off continuing to leave those flies at home, also don't expect to keep it to yourself, it will blow your mind how many folks search forums for new places which are uncrowded with fish.

Mike,
Great trip report! I have never fished the upper Clinch and it was interesting to read about and see your pictures. Thanks for sharing your adventure and educating me about that area.
