kingsport info needed

Have some time off work coming in early may and am planning to camp and fish around the kingsport area. I was originally going to land somewhere on wautaga lake near the elk river so I had more fishing options, but a big part of my reasoning for this trip is to also visit/spend time with my old buddy Buddha. He lives in kingsport with his wife and kid, and since I'm not trying to keep him from the family I am changing my plans to help accommodate his needs as well.

So far about all I can find is either warrior path or KOA. Warrior is $20 per night for me to set up a tent on a RV lot, and I have done KOA in the past and swore I never would again. Any one know of something else? Or should I just pony up at warriors path?

Prefer free to cheap, wooded and near water.

Thanks!

Warriors path is a nice place on the lake, I'd suck it up and pay the money. I've never heard of an elk river up there in that area, and am only familiar with the South Holston, Holston, watauga, and Stoney creek.

It comes out of NC into the southern side of the lake. Hwy 159 @poga rd. A friend of mine spends a week around there every summer and says the area as a whole is hard to beat.

I fear you may be right about warrior path. I hate to give up $40 of my gas/spending cash off the top like that, but as many times as I've Googled, Google mapped, etc, I still haven't found much else in the area
