Caney Surprise

I've hit the Caney a few times lately and have done very well. The fish are healthy and relatively plentiful which is always nice to see. On Thursday I headed down with a friend and we caught a bunch of chunky 'bows on the usual flies. A few fish were rising to sporadic caddis and craneflies which was a nice bonus compared to the usual midge and nymph fishing.

The highlight of the day for me was finally catching carp out of a spot I've tried to catch them at for a long time. I've caught some other carp on the river but this spot has always been tough for me. Finally I was able to check it off the list but I'll be back for sure. These fish are a lot of fun on the fly! The scary thing about this fish is that it is definitely one of the smaller ones!

Thanks for the post David:biggrin:

I wouldn't want to kiss those lips:eek:, but hooking one sounds like fun

I have seen crane flies hatch at a few tail waters. What is a good fly to use to imitate when I see them?

Thanks in advance

I've never run into fish that are picky enough to need anything other than an appropriately colored parachute style pattern. There are some great patterns out there I just haven't really got around to tying any of them. Of course, if the fish will take my parachute then I guess it doesn't matter.
