Anybody got a pattern for sourwood worms?
When I started trout fishing as a teen-ager, we fished Tellico and Citico all the time and in the summer would shake sourwood trees for the worms that would fall off the leaves. They were deadly on trout. I've wanted a pattern for them ever since. I'm not even sure what kind of worm it is, but it looked sort of like a tobacco worm.

Looks like the green one on top. I don't think they have fuzz on them.

Re: Anybody got a pattern for sourwood worms?
Can you remember how big they were? Caterpillar size or Inchworm (fat or skinny, in other words?) Did they have the horn on them like the top photo? If you take the legs out of the middle of the worm in the top photo you'll pretty much have the common inchworm.

Re: Anybody got a pattern for sourwood worms?
Much fatter than an inch worm, I don't remember a horn, legs sort of like the top pic, but not furry. Segmented, I believe.

Preacher,
Let me know what size you'd be interested in and I'll give 'er a go. Maybe you and I could get out and give them a try when they're out and about. |

Probably about a size 12 2xl hook. I live just up the hill behind Bethel Baptist Church, which is the church on the hill just across from Little River Outfitters. I work a pretty flexible schedule, so stop by sometime and we'll fish.

I'll work on a few things for you then ;). I lived in Wears Valley last year and wanted to find a full gospel, spirit filled church! Is that your church? I may be up that way later next week and I'll swing by to see you. I'll let you know for sure before I get there.

Hey Preacher and Rusty, Walter says the Green Weenie which was originated by George Harvey of State College, PA was designed to imitate the inchworm or sourwood worm. Byron :)
