another orvis rod question
I purchased a orvis trout bum just for my next trip to the Smokies, but I need to purchase new line. *What would be the best 4 weight "Dt" or "Wf" Orvis line for the rod? *
Also I've heard that the Orvis coating is currently the best? Thank you |
Re: another orvis rod question
To be honest, I like the SA Mastery trout lines better. I haven't fished the newest Orvis lines though. I've had some problems with the Wonderline and cracking though :(. I got a SA Mastery line at LRO last fall and it is great!!!

Re: another orvis rod question
I like a DT line personnally for 5wt rods and under. I fish an SA XPS on my 4 and 5 weight Winston WTs'. The 4wt has been through 2 seasons and I haven't even flipped it over on the spool yet (and this is with minimal cleaning), and it still casts like new. I trashed 2 orvis wonderlines each in a single season. Their new coating is supposed to be far improved though. The nice thing about the XPS is the low memory, which is a good thing if you use a conventional type reel. They handle the cold water temps well! You might also consider the RIO selective trout line as well (also comes in DT). Just my 2cts.

Re: another orvis rod question
I would like to thank everyone for their suggestions.
You can probably tell that I don't get out much. My family and I come to the Smokies about 5 or 6 times a year and it seems like we're a little late this year. I primarily fish the tail-waters around Nashville, but it doesn't seem the same. I fish a Winston 8' 6" with a 5 weight WF SA GPX in warmer slower water. Tight lines, Brett |
