"Heads up" on Road Prong

Just a "heads up" for those of you who may be considering fishing Road Prong for brookies when it opens this Saturday.

The first section of this stream (from the 1st to the 2nd trail crossing) is a little over 1/2 mile long. *There are no "fisherman trails" along this gorge section and the banks have constant and incredibly thick rhodie growth. *The main trail, up towards the Chimneys, is usually no more than 100 yards from the stream, but might as well be a mile. *There will be no way to get out of the stream (even on all fours) until you reach a point near the 2nd trail crossing. *There are 3 significant casades which must be climbed on their shoulders since you can't get into the rhodies. * This section should not be attempted in high water!!!! * *Also, you will probably not be able to get out of the stream and get around a fisherman you might *encounter. *This section is much harder to fish than the gorge section of the West Prong of the LPR below the confluence of Road Prong and Walker Camp.

Above the 2nd crossing, near the Chimney Tops trail intersection, the trail is a little closer to the stream but still steep, tight and a hard stream to fish.

Fishing should be great unless it gets crashed, just make sure you have a buddy with you and are prepared for this section before you go.

Justin,

I'm definitely going to fish Road Prong this spring. *But I recently had shoulder surgery and need to wait another month or two before I tackle Road Prong. *I've just started back on the easier water. *Maybe we can get together May or June.

PM me. I'm planning on being at the trailhead at first daylight. I don't care if I have to fish on all four all day long. I'm used to it. I like it rough :P

All jokes aside. I'm interested in some company, The problem might be that we might have backup plans if everyone and their brother decides to fish the same section at the same time. I'm way to excited to get into fights over some fish.

Let me know?

Hans

Coming up for 8 days of fishing beginning on the 15th. Looks like I'll have all the lower elevation streams in the park by myself. Everybody else gonna be chasin' brookies. ;)

No takers for tomorrow? Still chance to contact me. I will be checking online until 9pm or so tonight, then I have to get some shuteye so I can get up real early. Tomorrow is a very much anticipated day as you all know. I wish my buddy from Florida would be here. He is on his way though, for later this month I believe.
