Brandon,

Cades Cove is probably my favorite campground in the park. *Here is a link http://www.nps.gov/grsm/planyourvisi...ry-camping.htm that gives information on the camping opportunities within the park *and Cades Cove is one of those options. *If fishing is a goal of your trip, you might think about Elkmont also as it is more centrally located. *

Edit: This is from the same source as previous post...I think I was a little slow ::)

Cades Cove does not close at a certain time. Check out time is 11:00 am. and check in is at 1:00pm. but I have arrived as early as 9:30 am and checked in no problem. Quiet time starts at 10:00pm. It is a Bear habitat and food storage regulations are enforced especially right now with all the bears being so active in the lower elevations. Camped there two weekends ago and saw eleven bears in one trip around the loop. Thats more than I have seen in 20 years. If you have more specific question just ask, I may not know the answer but would be glad to help any way I can.

Hey thanks for your help coach. See my friend and I will be coming up from Murfreesboro after we get off work and we were wondering if we got there at 10:30 p.m. if we could get in to our campsite.

Re: Camping in the Smokies

The ranger station closes in the evening(not sure what time maybe 6pm maybe 8pm) but they post a list of available sites outside the ranger station on the bullitin board. Last time I went I arrived at 8pm and the station was closed. Looked at the available campsites and did not like any of them so I picked one that was empty and set up. Went to the ranger station at 9am the next morning and officially checked in. If you do not have a reservation you can go online to the nps reservation site ( i highly recommend you do that), if not it is first come first served as far as sites go. Does not matter what time you get there at night but there are no hookups (water or electric) and it is very dark at night in the campground. Great place to stay...hope you enjoy your camp.

Great! Thank you very much for your help coach! We were going to put in a reservation but were waiting because we didn't want to make a reservation and then not even be able to get in there when we got there. Thanks for all your help!

Re: Camping in the Smokies

hey coach! yes we did...we headed up there from pelham, tn at about 7 pm friday night which is an hour behind the time up there. we arrived at elkmont and set up our tent at about 1 am. we got up sat. morning and fished up near tremont and had a blast! went to little river outfitters twice in one day (thanks LRO for the great weekend!) and then headed to the ut fl game. after the game we headed to our site for sat night at cades cove campground and set up our tent at 2am! got up sun morning and fished near tremont again and then headed back home around 4 pm. my friend and i hardly get to fish dries on the tailwater we fish so we had a GREAT time fishing w/dries. we did pretty well for not being that experienced up in the smokies! we had a GREAT time and are already planning our next trip which will hopefully be backpacking to a backcountry site! thanks for your help coach!
