Where are you coming from, Alabama (I live in AL too)? Are you looking for the closest spot from your house? There are only three front country campgrounds (ones where you can drive up too the camp site) which take reservations right now through Oct. 31st (smokemont, elkmont, & cades cove). The other front country campgrounds are first come first serve. My personal favorites are Deep Creek (NC side), Abrams Creek (TN side), and Straight Fork of Raven Creek (NC side). Hope this helps. Good Luck!

Thank You. I am coming from Nashville. Have you ever camped at Elkmont? It looked like we would have good access to the Little River.

I have stayed at elkmont before. It can get crowded with it being relatively close to Gatlinburg but it is nice. I would recommend gettinng a reservation since it could be crowded with all the people looking at the fall colors. The streches of Little River along the road get heavily fished-- try hiking up the trail awhile & getting away from some of the crowds. Hope this helped.

I would camp at Elkmont. You've got some of the finest water in the Little River closeby and you are closer to the high elevation trout streams on the West Prong of the Little Pigeon. You can hike up to Fish Camp Prong which is one of
my favorites. It will be crowded with leaflookers and hikers but that's where I would be at that time of year.

BF,

I would vote Elkmont, also. Stayed there 2 weekends ago. It's centally located so you can fish East or West pretty easily. Definitely make reservations. While there are usually spots open, if you want one near the river or near jakes creek, you need to reserve. Here's a link to their map. Good luck.

Thank you! I appreciate the quick reply.

Looks like we will be camping and fishing from Elkmont. Any advice on flys to use? Also has anyone used spinning gear? I have a few trout magnets.

Any advice is appreciated
