FF in Knoxville

I just received the "Watermark" which is the southeastern conclave publication of Federation of Flyfshers. In it it states that a charter club is in the making in Knoxville, TN. I'm a long standing member of FF but no nothing about such an endeavor. Does anyone have any news about this upcoming club? Please infor anyone. Sorry about using the Smokies section for this. Didn't know where to ask.

Thanks

Hans,

I sent an e-mail to Dave Duffy. He's Chairman of the Southeastern Council. I didn't get my Watermark today of course, here in Townsend everything gets here a day or two later. I'm sure he'll let me know what's going on and I'll pass it on. I knew he was trying to organize a club here but I haven't heard a word either.

Somehow I don't think that upsets you, though. ;)

Byron!

Thanks for helping me out. I visited TU in Maryville tonight and listened to Steve Moore. It is always a pleasure to hear him speak. I'm looking forward to your presentation in April. Anyway, I'm going to try to volunteer for some stuff this year.

I'm moving my membership from the Hiwassee chapter to the Little River Chapter. I just down go down to Hiwassee enough anymore to warrant membership down there. I miss Don Denney and those guys though. I have learned that wherever you go, when you are around Trout Bums you are in good company.

In conclusion, I guess we need to move this thread somewhere else. I most have been drunk when I wrote to apologize for putting this in the smokies section when it actually is in the tackle and gear section. ;D

I got an e-mail from Dave Duffy who is the Chairman of the Southeastern Council of FFF. He had some folks lined up to start a club in Knoxville and it fell apart. He's still interested in getting one going. BTW the Council sponsors an intern to work with the Fisheries Crew at the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. You can go to their website and check it out in the Conservation part of the website:

www.secfff.org

If any of you are interested in starting a club contact Dave.

Re: FF in Knoxville

Thanks Byron for getting this on the site.

Club formation is not too hard and I am willing to help those who would like to do this.

The Federation of Fly Fishers is not a competing organization to Trout Unlimited. *Rather it is a complimentary organization. *The FFF stands for Friends Fun and Fly Fishing. * Anyone who has caught a fish on a fly should belong to FFF. *The only organization that advocates for the Fly Fisher for All Fish and All Waters. *The President of the Federation of Fly fishers, R. P. Van Gytenbeek, is a past Executive Director of Trout Unlimited. *"Van" spearheaded the growth of TU during the 1970's. * *

Projects funded and sponsered by the FFF and the Southeratern Council of which I am President and have been working for 19 years. *

The FFF has been the lead in forming groups to get the Stripped Bass listed as a game fish on the East Coast. *

The Osprey, a newsletter on Salmon and Steelhead publiched by the FFF, *is condidered the top scientific source for study in these increadable fish. *

The mangrove Initiative in Florida to help re-plant mangroves damaged by the hurricanes. *The Mangroves are the nursery areas for Saltwater near shore fisheries. *Anyone who wants to go after Reds, Snook, etc. should consider supporting this work.

The FFF in the SE has sponsored the inturn mentioned above. *All funding came from the SE Council. *

of the tiers that i know that have been at the shop, Bob clouser life member honered by FFF, Chris Helms awarded the Buszic (sp) award for anoutstanding tier in the FFF and life member, Dean Campbell awarded the SE Council teir of the year award. *

The FFF works hard in educating the Fly fishing public with classes. *Go to the SEC website in Byron's link and look at the classes offered at Calloway Gardens in June 2007 and see what you can take/learn. *

In livingston this year there will be over 70 *workshops devotyed to tying casting and fishing techniques. *Too many to count. *

On the Conservation side the FFF was the lead on setting up the first conference on the Diddy mo or rock snot that has shown its head in the South Holston and other streams in the US. *This symposium was held in bozeman, MT last May before the Western fisheries society meeting.

The FFF also has formed an alliance with the Wounded Warrior Program whereby wounded vets receive physical and recreational therapy including fly fishing and fly tying. *The FFF used the 501c3 classification to help this organization get off the ground. *I met some of these vets in Bozeman, MT last summer at the National comnclave and had a grant time talking with some of them. *This program is taking off at Veteren's hospitals ation wide and another good reason to look at the FFF and become involved.

I have been on the soap box enough. *

We need 7 people to form a club. *Those interested give me a shout. *

with over 200 views there should be enough interest to form a club. Any takers?

Dave Duffy
