Hiwassee Help...
Heading to the HI again this weekend and would like some ideas for flies...

I may be crossing the line here, but I'd like some recipies (Size, color, etc.) for...

Streamers if they are hunkered down...

Dry for a Dry/Dropper combo...

Midge for a dropper...

I've got lots of patterns that I have tied, but I've not fished the HI enough to have a lot of confidence any any specific patterns yet.

Thanks for the help!

Best advice I can give you! Ask for Michael Cox!

If you are planning on fishing the Hiwassee tomorrow, i would be ready for some heavy fishing pressure.
Black stones 16, para adams/BWO sz 16-20 emergers 16-18, black hares ears and Pt's 16-18, Black or olive buggers
You will probably run into some rising fish during the later part of the day, especially after the water drops after a pulse. nymphs under indicators in the fast runs with some shot, buggers swing em slow and deep then a slow bump retrieve bringing them back.
Good luck.
Oh yeah unless you are going to be on the water at daylight, i wouldn't worry about the runs up by the powerhouse, they will be packed,
the shoals below towee have been fishing very well, just take your time.

Thank you very much... We will be there tomorrow. Combat fishing I'm sure!

Sorry I can't offer specifics but like the other posts indicate, I've also had success using black woolys, black stones on the Hiwassee. I saw a guy with his spin reel last summer hauling them in with his black rubber worm <not that you'd try that technique>.... I don't know a lot about that river just that black bugs work.

Looking forward to a good report

Very windy today on the HI. I did manage two decent Bows up at the powerhouse. Thanks for the help!

Kevin, I thought I saw you as I was passing the parking lot down below the trophy zone. I was going to stop by on the way back but you had already left... We saw a Bald Eagle upriver which was awesome!!! Glad you caught some fish...

Hey PA,
I saw the Bald Eagle as well, it was flying overhead as I came out of the trophy section at big bend. I struggled today fighting the wind, and eventually moved up to the big bend area where it wasn't so bad. I only managed to catch one bow about 7". My buddy however managed to land a 12" bow and a fat 16 3/4" brown, both in the trophy section.

Don Deneny's website is a tremendous resource on the HI. I'm sure LRO don't mind me giving that out.

Kevin, Plateau and others, I will be on the HI next Satuday March 3 for my first outing this year. I haven't fished since October and I am getting excited. I'm taking a co worker and we will be slightly upstream of the flats above Hiwassee Outfitters and just downstream of Devil's Shoals. We will be in either a White Ford Ranger or a Black Nissan xterra. I'm planning on parking at Childers Creek parking area. We should be on the river at first daylight. Anyone interested in joining forces or just chat for a while send a pm.

Hans... I'll be there, if I remember right I think Trevor was planning on riding with me down there.

PA... Saw you go by. We stopped there on the way out to help my buddy with his casting. The wind was killing him. On a positive note, the wind forced me to clean up my cast. I found a nice long delivery that I could keep low and roll the fly out pretty soft with little or no false casting.

Going to the park tomorrow around lunch if its not pouring rain.
