I saw my first bear in the park about 1/4 mile below the gravel road on tremont. He wasn't very interested in me, but he definitely wasn't startled...just kind of watched me for a few seconds and...

Hidden fish
I never realized how many fish I was missing or how many fish are in those streams until I witnessed a large hatch when the fish were feeding.

What about the fish.
That is a log. I couldn't imagine pulling that fish out of one of those streams. Without giving the exact location, is this right at the mouth or a mile upstream or so?

? White Bass on a fly
This time of year the white bass in Fort Loudon absolutely feast on shad minnows in the shallows. Has anyone tried these guys on a fly rod?

I was in that area a bout two weeks ago. The Little Tennessee below the dam seemed to be pretty big water with STEEP banks...I'm not sure if the water level changes much at all with generation...

were surely built to last...including the cast iron hardware on a few of them. They look like something off the Maginot Line. I did pick up A Pocket History of Appalachia on the way up. It is truly...

"Crowded"
"Crowded" would be a relative term here, right. I mean its hard to imagine I'd spend alot of time fishing behind or next to anyone midweek on Hazel. Its not any more crowded than Tremont would be...

I don't think I've ever seen the Little River at this low of a flow. How low can it go before there is serious damage to the fish population?

History:Why no big fish?
I have seen pictures of people with stringers full of 20 inch brook trout caught in the Smoky Mountains around 1928. My understanding now is that there are no big fish because of the wide weather...
