Thanks for the report! I usually make a trip to the valley every year or two. It's always a favorite. My wife and I spent four nights there in June and I caught plenty too.

I fished lower Cataloochee earlier this week and the water was definitely warm. I caught a brookie down past the last bridge which is around 2400 feet. I think this is the lowest I've caught one.

I just pick up what I want. It's lying around all over. Remember the three Ds: dead, down, dry. Another rule of thumb I go by is that I can't break it with my hands or feet, it's too big anyway.

I personally like an 8' 4wt for the mountain streams. Good luck and enjoy the process.

I fished years with a Cabelas Three Forks 7'6" 3-wt using a 4wt line. I caught many smokies trout on dry flies using that thing. Still have as a back-up.
